Evaluation

1 In what ways does your music promotion package use, develop or challege codes and conventions of real music promotion packages?

The promotional package that we created as a group has the same theme as the promotional poster that we created. We chose to use images of the actors from the video instead of using the band because we felt that by using the familiar actors it would make the album and promotional advertisements more recognisable. Instead of complying with the regular codes and conventions of album packaging and promotions we went against them by not including an image of the artist. The main reason why we chose to do this was because the actors feature in the video more than the band.
The overall opinion that we gained from showing the audience our ancillary tasks was that they were appealing and eye-catching but we should have used to the codes and conventions that Andrew Goodwin set for music videos, whereby the artist would feature on the promotional poster and also the digipak.

Here is my directors commentary.

How effective is the combination of your main product and anshilary texts?

Above are images of the digipak that we made to coinside with the music video. We chose to make the digipak black and white so that it relates to the dark lyrics that feature in the song and also to relate to the music video where we have used black and white effects. We chose to use the coral colour because we felt that it brought the poster to life and shows that the whole album is not dark and it does have some bright upbeat songs.
The font that we have used is quite plain, we decided to use a plain bold font because we wanted the picture to be as important s the text.
Below is an image of the poster we created in use, it is suck onto a wall in one of our media rooms. We chose to keep it as the same theme as the digipak so that it looks professional.

What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

Overall from the audience feedback we gained positivity with a few points that we could change if we were going to re-make the video. I think the main feedback that came back was that on the ancillary tasks; the promotional poster and the digipak we should have used images of the band and maybe used one or two images of the actors on the digipak. I agree with this feedback and would definitley change it if i were to do it again.

Below is what some of my peers thought.

Luke says; "I thouroughly enjoyed watching the music video, the differnt camera angles really kept my attention and the black and white part really added tension."

I also asked Luke what he thought of the anchillary products:

Edward says: "I enjoyed the music video i like that the band featured throughout but i think if the band featured on the anchillary products it would have been more appealing to the target audience."

Adam says: "The music video was quite quickly paced which i enjoyed because there was alwasy something going on and it gripped my attention."

Laura says: "The music video was well edited, i particularly like near to the start when the girl starts to runaway and we see he from all different angles. The anchillary products are really well presented aswell although i would have used different images if i were to have made it."

Sammie says: "The video was really good and kept my attention throughout, the transitions between the narrative and the band were really smooth."

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Throughout the whole of the project we used a variety of different media technologies, the most common obviously being http://www.blogger.com/ where we have created an online portfolio of all our developmental work. Another website that we used was http://www.myspace.com/ where we checked out different bands and also found our artist Bazmaki, Myspace helped us to listen to and select what track we wanted to make a video for.

When we were filming the video we used different technologies;

The main technology that we used was the camera that we filmed the video on using a tape. We used the tripod alongside with the video camera this helped us to film professionally and keep the camera steady whilst we filmed our shots.

The most important piece of media technology that we used was the computer where we used Adobe Premiere Pro CS3;

We captured, cut and edited our work in Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and it would have been a real challange to create the hight quality that we did without it.

Promotional Posters

Promotional poster are created to higher the awareness of new Cd's and albums that are out. They appear in shops such as HMV and also magazines such as Kerrang! and NME.
The posters are mainly portrait and include when the album is out, the name of the band and also the name of album. Sometimes they also include the name of the hit single.
Here are some examples:

Digipak

A digipak is another way to describe a CD case. Digipak's usually include a picture of the artist along with the name of the band and the name of the released single. The digipak also includes a list of the other songs from the album.
